Service Description

Engage in the serene, time-honored practice of Sashiko Japanese Embroidery. The “small stabs” of this essential handwork skill have been employed for centuries to strengthen, insulate, and decorate garments and home goods for longevity, warmth, and beauty. A simple running stitch will transform linen or denim into a small, embellished and practical bag. All steps of the Sashiko process will be covered; drawing out grids or stencils, laying out patterns, making a stitching plan. Choose from traditional Sashiko patterns and Floral Motif stencils. We will hand sew the two decorated fabric panels into a fully-functional drawstring bag. Embrace the beauty of imperfection! This is an open skill level workshop from novice to experienced stitcher. All tools and materials are provided. Each class kit will include a pair of Sashiko needles, one skein of thread, a tapestry needle threader, a pair of fabric squares, ribbons for the drawstring, and take-home pattern instructions. Please bring your good reading glasses!
